In 2010 the KDSA will run Girls only competitions in U8, U9, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18. All girls only competitions will be played On Sundays.
Girls can choose to play in the Saturday mixed competition, the Sunday girls competition or both.
Team match shirts are provided by the Club.
All players will received a pair of Chatswood Rangers playing socks as part of their registration in 2010. These will be distributed to team managers prior to the beginning of the season.
Due to difficulties in players finding white shorts over the past few seasons the club will be selling shorts in 2010, on a one off order basis. The shorts will be available to view and size at our player assessment day. Orders must be placed and payment made by Friday 19th March. The shorts will be $12 each.
Players provide their own
- white shorts
- boots
- shin guards and mouthguards,
Note: Players will not be able to play/train without shin guards. Mouthguards are highly recommended at all times.
Training Shirts
Training shirts will be available to purchase at our player assessment day on 14st March or by emailing the players name and size to admin@chatswoodrangers.com.au. Training shirts will be $10.
Chatswood Rangers believe it is in the best interest of all players that where possible they play with and against players of similar ability and therefore we undertake varying degrees of player grading across junior teams. In 2009 Chatswood Rangers will take the following approach to team formation:
|
Under 6
|
Teams formed on school and friendship groups
|
|
Under 7
|
One ‘graded’ A team will be selected, all other teams formed on school and friendship groups
|
|
Under 8 and above
|
A and B team will be selected. Where player numbers permit other teams will be formed on school and friendship groups,
|
The team selection process is conducted in 3 parts:
- Player assessments from previous coach
- Player assessment day sessions
- Trial games
|
Sunday 14th March

For each session players must wear boots and shin pads, or they will not be permitted to participate. Players should each have a drink bottle with water, hat & sunscreen. Where possible, players should bring their own football - size 3 ball for under 6 to 9, size 4 ball under 10+
We encourage all prospective coaches and managers to attend the player assessment sessions.
Parent Involvement
Our Club is run by parent volunteers and everyone is expected to take on a role to help with the running of the teams or the Club. Involvement in junior sport is an extremely enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Each squad or team needs a coach and manager before we can register it with the KDSA. The Club would highly recommend that in the U6/7 age group each squad also has an assistant coach to help out on Saturdays, as managing 2 simultaneous games can be challenging. The Club and association provide coach training free of charge.
Teams also require a referee, while you do not need formal qualifications to referee, it is important that you have a clear understanding of the rules which apply to the specific age group.
It is worth considering older siblings or other family member or friends as potential managers, coaches or referees for your children’s teams.
In 2010 we are seeking parents to join our Junior Football Committee and be involved in the overall management of junior football at Chatswood Rangers.
After the distribution of team kits in 2010, our Junior Equipment Manager, Bernie McCartney, will be standing down, so we need to find a replacement. The Club has sourced storage space for the equipment over the summer, so it is no longer a requirement to have a spare garage! If you are interested in this crucial role and would like to know more, email Bernie at mccartneymob@optusnet.com.au .
You can indicate your interest in any of these roles on the online registration form.
Training for Coaches and Prospective Coaches
Coach the Coaches
In 2009 Chatswood Rangers will hold several hands-on ‘Coach the Coaches’ sessions for junior coaches, including sessions for our more experienced coaches. These sessions will be conducted by the Club’s Premier League Coach Ian Moores.
Formal Coaching Qualifications
FFA have a number of different coaching qualifications available. The Club and the KDSA consider it a minimum requirement that all coaches of U6-U10’s complete the Grassroots Football Certificate, we would strongly encourage all coaches to undertake a Junior Coaching Licence Course. Details of these courses are below:
Grassroots Football Certificate is of three hours duration and is aimed at beginner coaches and teachers of players up to 10 years of age. It is designed to give them a basic understanding of their role and to provide them with practical ideas for training sessions.
Junior Coaching Licence course is aimed towards the beginner coach, managers, parents, teachers and prospective coaches of junior club teams interested in development training methods. This course is for those coaches who require the knowledge and competency to organise junior players into suitable soccer practices. This course is an accredited program under the auspices of the Football Federation Australia National Coach Acceditation Scheme. Football Federation Australia's Licensed Instructors and authorised Lecturers focus the course content on competent organisation of development practices through the presentation of modern practical and theory methods. The course is also designed to further enhance the knowledge of those coaches who are currently coaching players of a junior age.
These courses are paid for by the KDSA.
